whats up,
I have a 91' Mazda Miata British racing green special edition that i
bought for $1775 for competition in SCCA Spec Miata class. If anyone is
interested you can check the progress of the build at

OK, I downloaded the SCCA GCR from
http://www.scca.org/Club/Index.asp?IdS=009784-2E22900&x=030|057&~=

From the Spec Miata section:

"Towing eyes per GCR Section 17.31 are required. Stock towing eyes may
be modified, replaced, or removed but may serve no other purpose."

GCR Section 17.31 says towing eyes must have a minimum ID of 2 inches.

So, the OEM tiedowns are not required if they're replaced with other
approved towing eyes. Happy now? :-)

Actually, I read that as saying that you're more than welcome to remove them
if you like.

How can they be required but you are allowed to remove them??

Since the stock towing eyes weigh a ton, I would think everyone
would "modify" them to be of balsa wood.
