Overheating on a 1999 grand voyager 3.3

Default Overheating on a 1999 grand voyager 3.3

I have a 1999 Grand Voyager. I have replaced the radiator, radiator fan
assembly, thermostat (2 times), Temperature sensor (2 times) and fan relay (2
times). The engine does fine as long as the car is moving, such as on the
freeway. When I have to stop at traffic lights or slow moving traffic, the
engine heats up. I wonder if the relay should have had lithium spread over the
flat metal plate? The fans don't seem to be coming on. As far as I can tell
everything is connected properly.

I would have to suspect the fan, since you say that it is not coming on. I think that there is a way to remove the connector from the relay, and to short the pins to make sure the fan comes on.

I would recommend using dielectric grease on the pins in the relay connector, to ensure a good connection.

I believe that there is a procedure to diagnose the fan and relay on allpar.com, in the repairs > cooling fan relay section. There is wealth of information there.

We have two Grand CVs (04 & 07) Both have had intermittent radiator fans.
One was a bad fan motor the other was a bad relay/control.


I'd try to jump the relay & control out of the circuit. If you still have a
problem look into replacing the fans.
