...and the Foxes go on

Thursday morning, my wife was backing her Escape out of the garage with the
rear passenger door open. The garage is fine. The rear door isn't. The
Escape goes into the shop on Tuesday.

Early Friday morning, my daughter and a deer had a difference of opinion.
She managed to get her '99 Mystique home, but the hood is crumpled, the
plastic grille smashed.

That leaves my two '93 Mustangs.

It's funny to watch my girls making plans over who's going to drive CFrog
when. (CFrog is the GT convertible with automatic. TFrog is the LX hatch
with stick, and nobody's fighting over that one.)

My wife commented today that there's no problem merging onto the highway in
the Mustang. Duh. I'm not worried that she's going to become a Mustang
convert, though - she's used to sitting up much higher and likes that about
the Escape. And she's worried that the Mustang has too MUCH power -
interesting point of view, that.

But, come Tuesday when my wife gets her loaner car, CFrog goes to daughter.
That's when I start to worry. The first pretty day, she's going to want to
drop the top, and she'll probably enjoy the hell out of it.

Two smashed vehicles and two 15-year-old Mustangs that have never been
smacked. Who's laughing now?

Who pays for the gas? That just may enter the equation. My Contour gets high
20's on a good day. Last trip 27.8. It's a V6, 5 speed. Come to think of it,
my 89 5.0 LX got 25... Guess it's not such a big difference.

At least the right cars got "smacked" and there are no permanent
injuries. Our son totaled four cars in less than two years. One of
those cars he totaled was my beloved Nissan 240SX convertible. At least
your wife an daughter spared you the grief of a Mustang getting wrecked
(so far, I should say). Look on the bright side.

Good thing you don't live that close to the beach. Convertible 5.0 +
single girl + beach = Big Trouble.

I haven't seen 25 in the entire time I've owned these cars. Maybe on a long
stretch of highway driving with temperatures in the low 70s, but otherwise
25mpg is a dream. In the heat of summer with the A/C on while sitting in
rush hour traffic, I'm lucky to get 15.

I'm always on the bright side. Little Mary Sunshine, that's me.

TFrog is my baby. CFrog is "just" a convertible GT, and I've only had it for
little more than three years. If they manage to total that car, no tears
shed. And nobody drives TFrog but me.

Still, if the three of us were down to just TFrog, things might get a little
dicey.

For one, she has to use SPF300 at the beach (redhead). For another, she has
very exacting standards in men, it seems. I always think of Elaine on
Seinfeld - the least little perceived flaw has her walking out the door.
