Default Car Alarm Sensitivity

I am interested in finding out the maximum range of the outer
perimeter sensors of radar/proximity type car alarms. I understand
that most people are worried about false alarms due to the sensitivity
being set too high, but I'd like to know just how far away a person
can be reliably detected when the sensitivity is cranked up all the
way. I imagine you'd get a lot of stray pickup, but I just wondered
if anybody had some practical experience with this.
