Default Washington DUI checkpoints

The governor, amongst others, is pushing to make them legal in WA. Up
to now, per the news, WA was one of only 7 states that banned them.

Her proposal is to run them 'at locations with high incidence of DUI
accidents"...uhuh. How long before they are set up a block away from
bars?

well, that would actually make more sense than in the middle of I-66.
yes, I've been stopped there. a half hour wait between exits of a
goddamn INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. at 1AM. I was NOT a happy camper.

I'm not sure how that's supposed to increase safety, although I guess if
someone plows into the back of the line at speed, then you've found your
drunk.

A block away from bars? Nahh... more like anyplace they can, the more
nonsensical (for DUI) the better, preferably near a high traffic expressway
off ramp.

If it's anything like Kansas City, it will be to stop all drivers even
if the likelihood is low of any actual DUI operators. I was stopped
in a DUI checkpoint on a main boulevard in KC several years ago, where
all traffic was rerouted through a parking lot. The only problem
was...the traffic being stopped was heading *toward* the bar district.

That's pretty much what they do here. They find a high traffic road and a
parking lot. I've never seen them set up anywhere that would catch 'bar
traffic'.

Have you notified local authorities that people only get drunk (and/or
otherwise impaired) at bars...?

I'm certain they'll find that a revelation.

As i've said before the best way to cut down on drunk driving is hand
out much stiffer penalties. Make drunk driving an automatic felony.
Even if the driver doesn't go to prison he still loses access to many
jobs and loses his right to have a gun and in many states the right to
vote. Let's stop coddling these kid-killers.
