Default retro fitting a fuel reserve petcock

I see in the catalogue that they still sell a reserve valve for the
bottom of a type one gas tank. but apparently changed the threaded part
after '61.
what would be involved in fitting one to a newer. say '71 ghia tank?
TIA>
