Repeal the deadly CAFE rules that created the SUV, and watch people
switch back to station wagons. www.vehiclechoice.org.

Gas tax is fairly regressive. I'd only be in favor of it if there were
provisions for some kind of tax credit for lower incomes.

That is a bad arguement. Back when station wagons were being built
what was the percentage of them being sold? I would put it at way
under 10% of all passenger cars built. Most SUVs on the road are
bought for the macho bit, not as a people hauler. I don't know what
the percentage is now but I saw a figure of 40% IIRC several years ago
of SUVs on the road.

That SUVs are bought as a replacement for the station wagon is true but
it is a very minor percentage of all of them sold.

Heh. If people only want the macho *look*...

Imagine if GM made a new, tiny, possibly hybrid version of the Hummer
based on the Geo Metro.

I've got the perfect name for it too: the H8.

Think it'd sell?

I'd buy one. That is the EXACT vehicle I want. I want a small AWD hybrid
based on a CAR platform, but with AWD, and preferably Japanese, such as
Suzuki in particular (suzuki made the geo metro)

The only thing that would make me hesitant about buying one is if it was
labelled "Hummer", I'd have to think twice (or maybe three times) before I'd
pull out the checkbook. -Dave
