Default Shop scratched my door - should I let them fix it?

I took my car in to get a starter replaced an upon pick up noticed
right away a new inch long bright scratch all the way through the paint
on the drivers door. The scratch was shiny and obviously new as the
mananger on duty agreed it had to have been damaged as there site. He
told me to get 3 estimates to bring in to them as that was the policy.
Basically, the estimates were about $800 each. Now upon hearing that
the main store manager wants me to bring the car in and they "will just
take care of it" with one of their trusted body shops. I am worried
about getting a 2nd rate job. Am I within my legal bonds to demand they
cut me (or on of the shops I got an estimate from) a check so I know
it's done right?

Nope. If you have comprehensive insurance coverage in the U.S. then
contact your insurance company. Otherwise insist that the work be done
at the shop of your choice. At the repair shop it will most likely be
done by giving a spray can to the guy who does oil changes.

I thought all shops had a release "not responsible for loss or damage".
