Default Noises (Cold Engine)

With a cold engine, what sort of adnormal noises might a 156 produce?
I can't suss whether it's the fan belt, variator or something else...

(admittedly I haven't had the bonnet up yet to have a closer listen)

if it sounds like a diesel (and its not!) then it'll be the variator.

What's it sound like. What engine ?

My old (2000) 2.4 diesel is noisy (clattery) in the a.m till it's warmed up
a bit - esp in this colder weather.

Probably the beginnings of my fan belt - sounds like it's slipping a
bit. Add that to new sparks, time to change cambelt (37.5k statue
miles) and possibly brakes, I think I'm going to have an expensive
year!
