Brake fade
I have a problem with the brakes on a Rover 416. When light pressure
is applied to the pedal it will travel to the floor, the brakes still work and the ABS will kick in if braking hard. Pedal pressure will increase if the pedal is pumped. I thought it must be the M/cylinder but... I have had new disks, pads and master cylinder and the system has been bled twice. The fitters in the garage haven't a clue what the problem is. I have noticed that when the motor is off the pressure is much greater, if I hold the pedal down and then start the motor the pressure drops and the pedal makes for the floor. Could this be the vacuum assist unit? I have checked the brake hoses externally and they don't bulge as far as I can see and the pipes the the vacuum unit seem OK but I have been told they can collapse internally? |
