Default 2006 Civic mileage too low?

I recently picked up a 2006 Civic EX and have noticed that after two
tanks of gas, that the mileage is about 9km/liter. This is a wee bit
low. Even my 2000 Accord generaly maintained a 10km/liter mileage.
With the smaller Civic and smaller engine, I was expecting this to
jump to 12-13km/liter but the opposite occured. Guess I'll take it in
for a check next week, but was wondering if anyone else out there with
the 2006 Civic has noticed this or has gotten near the theoretical
mileage for it?

TIA,

Drew

Is this city, highway, or mixed? Are you a lead-foot driver?

After about 5000km or so and with good driving habits, it should be broken
in and the mileage should improve. You should take it for a few fairly
lengthy highway runs during the break-in period.

Keep us informed. I think that many of us would be interested to confirm
whether the new Civic gets close to the EPA estimates and whether it will
better the older Civics.

1 US gallon = 3.785 liters. So, your 2006 Civic EX is giving 9km/liter,
which is 34 mpg, which I think is OK.

given that we're stuck with this low calorific value "reformulated"
garbage gasoline that's been adulterated with ethanol, i'd say that's right!

How in the hell did you come up with 34mpg from 9km/litre?

1 US gallon = 3.785 litres
1 litre = (1 / 3.785) = 0.264 US gallons
1 km = 0.621 miles

Therefo 9 km / 1 litre
= (9 x 0.621) miles / (1 x 0.264) US gallons
= 5.589 miles / 0.264 US gallons
= 21.17 miles per US gallon

Mixed, about 150km/100miles highway & 50km/30miles city per week.

I'll probably take it on a roadtrip from Toronto to Montreal before
the snows start, and see what it's like after that.

Thanks,

That's about what I was expecting, but my first 500km/300miles comes
out to something like 21-22 MPG. :-(

During this break-in period, I've tried to keep the RPMs under 3000
whenever possible. Typicaly the max RPMs I'm putting on the car is
about 4000 and that's only when I merge onto the highway.

He just forgot to convert km to miles. That's all.

I agree. And 21 mpg is terrible. I currently get 39 mpg in my 2002 Civic
LX coupe standard. That is the average over the life of the vehicle in
combined city and highway miles.
