82 charging problem
My alternator bench charges fine but in the car it does not charge.
With any accessories on it discharges. Could it be a ground? Any other ideas? Thanks |

When you say it bench tests fine, are you able to simulate the load? It
sounds like you have alternater output, but very low output if you only notice it discharge with the accessories turned on. It could be that one or two phases out of the three in the alternater are inoperative (shorted windings, punctured diode etc). Check out amp output on the bench and compare that to the spec. Steve G. My Grand-Am had a similar problem. It turned out to be a phase in the
alternator. "Kenneth Haines" > wrote in message ... > My alternator bench charges fine but in the car it does not charge. > With any accessories on it discharges. Could it be a ground? Any other > ideas? Thanks > |
