Space Ring Could Shade Earth and Stop Global Warming
By Robert Roy Britt
Senior Writer
posted: 27 June 2005

A wild idea to combat global warming suggests creating an artificial
ring of small particles or spacecrafts around Earth to shade the
tropics and moderate climate extremes.

There would be side effects, proponents admit. An effective
sunlight-scattering particle ring would illuminate our night sky as
much as the full Moon, for example.

And the price tag would knock the socks off even a big-budget agency
like NASA: $6 trillion to $200 trillion for the particle approach.
Deploying tiny spacecraft would come at a relative bargain: a mere
$500 billion tops.

But the idea, detailed today in the online version of the journal Acta
Astronautica, illustrates that climate change can be battled with new
technologies, according to one scientist not involved in the new work.

All we really have to do is cut back on consumption by getting rid of
gas guzzlers and lowering speed limits which would also lower the
crash rate and save lives and money.

You're as nutty as the guy proposing a giant space ring.

Actually what we need to do is get blow hards such as yourself to keep
your mouths closed; all of that hot air and methane you expell
contributes far more to global warming than burning petroleum products.

Global warming is a myth to spend money anyway. The earth goes through a
constant cycle of ice ages where the temperatures get hotter and colder
throughout:

Interesting article. I'll have to keep it in mind next winter when I'm
looking at a weather forecast for snow in Savannah.

I am not a believer in global warming (at least not for the often
stated reasons or that it is a major problem). However, that article is
factually inaccurate (or delibeately misleading). It claims CFC are the
prime greenhouse gas, which is not the case. They are implicated in
global warming, but methane, CO2,and water vapor are more significant
greenhouse gases.

Furtermore, the article is woefully out of date (almost 8 years).

Just looked at the message header and noted we use the same ISP. You
live in the Savannah area? I drove through there around the end of May
this year; nice area.

Tell me, if I recall correctly, there was a river by the name of
"Turtle River" or "Turtle Creek" or some such, if memory serves. There
was some *HUGE* complex sitting off of the interstate; do you have a
clue as to what that is?

TIA!

David

8 years out of a cycle of thousands isn't too much out of date.
