Default Stuck Window

The window on the driver's side of my '91 Miata has decided not to lower any
more than about two inches; the winder ceases to turn and something is
causing it to jam.
Any suggestions please on how best to remove the door panel to help trace
the problem? The window winder itself would appear to be the trickiest part
to remove.

Thanks, in anticipation.

Look in the Garage section at miata.net.

Remove the door handle and the lock, and the window crank if you have manual
windows. Pull gently outward at the bottom of the door panel first and then
around both sides to loosen the plastic clamps holding the panel to the
frame. Then lift up - the panel should come right off. Then look in the
garage section of miata.net for more info on fixing the window.

I had the same problem. It was fixed with a 2 cent zip-tie. But look in
the garage section if it's not obvious.

First you remove the arm-rest, which is a simple matter of undoing the
screws underneath it. Removing the window winder requires a special tool
that compresses the circlip around the axle of the winder -- you can buy one
at minimal cost at an auto parts store. You need to take the speaker out of
the door too, but that's a simple matter. Having done that, you can
carefully pry the door panel off, disconnecting the plastic plugs around the
outside of the panel one by one. Be careful with the latter step, or the
plugs will disconnect from the panel and remain stuck in the metal part of
the door, rather than coming out with the panel, which is what you want.

I had a problem with a window winder on my 1990 Miata. Lubricating the
parts took care of it.

Special tool that makes removing the circlip very simple:

It will also remove wheel nuts, engines, radios, etc.

Very useful and well worth the price! ;-)

Job done! Thanks guys for the help and advice.

Met a fellow Miata owner in a local mall parking lot who told me the besy
way to remove the circlip was with a pair of chopsticks. You guessed it; he
was Chinese!

I used a piece of rag, sliding it backwards and forwards over the open end
of the clip, a ten second job.
