He should try his taser first. He should try his baton if at all convinced that it may work. In some cases he should withdraw. However, yes there are times when he should blow the ****er away and not think twice. Are you adult enough to understand the difference? >This guy was throwing rocks at cars, then gets stopped while walking on >the freeway, and within 60 seconds of when the cop first encounters >him, he charges with a screwdriver and gets shot. If he didn't try one, but has a good reason, then nothing further should be done. How about if we stop blindly trusting the police, and start holding them accountable to the same standards everyone else is? In the past few weeks I have had the pleasure of dealing with about 5 cops, and the misfortune of dealing with a single **** of a cop and another asshole cop-wanna-be. That is pretty good, because if I was black, hispanic, or a teenager, the odds would be about 90% that every one of them would be an asshole/****. Citizens should be accorded the rights that liberals are arguing terrorists have, yet people like you argue that we should have no rights. Criminals in this country are supposed to get their day in court once apprehended under appropriate circumstances. That is what protects you, me and my family from **** cop. You and I have zero recourse through the legal system when it comes to **** cop. Some people in society resort in the only way they know how to, and that is outside the legal system. When cops violate the public's rights, they put every other cop in danger of serious harm or death because a certain segment of society will not tolerate being harassed. |

Another 15 mins and I could have > been past it, it appears, but I got tired of waiting. The better route, for future reference, is either 76 to Coast Highway or El Camino Real. Coast Highway is usually pretty decent from south of Oside to Solana Beach, definitely not past Via de la Valle. El Camino Real is easy to Manchester/I-5, really scenic if you want to take Encinitas Blvd/Rancho Santa Fe/La Bajada/Los Morros/La Granada/Via De Santa Fe/El Apajo to San Dieguito Rd to either Camino Del Sur/CA-56/I-15 or Via de la Valle to El Camino Real/Carmel Valley Rd/The Merge or Via de la Valle to I-5. Okay, not so easy, but it's a really nice drive usually. Mostly 45-50 mph with a few stop signs/lights, and you get to see San Diego S6 and S8, IIRC. A warning is that a single sloth can take you down to 25 mph, but it's rare. Since that's not my route home anymore, I feel it's safer to share with the Internet. Now I don't care if it gets too crowded, less traffic on I-5 to compete with. =) 76 to 15 to 163, ouch. I hope you didn't also get stuck in the hell that was 163 South near Friars Rd (I-8) that day after a multi-car accident combined with mall madness. I got stuck there for a good 15-20 minutes heading home. Dave (Also knows a good burrito shop in almost every part of SD County north of CA-94) |

I understand the difference, but I also can understand that if I have a gun, and someone has been throwing rocks at drivers (which has killed people before) and they're pulling a metal object out and charging me with it 10 feet can be the difference between shooting them and being stabbed in the chest. > >This guy was throwing rocks at cars, then gets stopped while walking on > >the freeway, and within 60 seconds of when the cop first encounters > >him, he charges with a screwdriver and gets shot. If you're charging a cop on the side of the freeway it's a different situation than if you're leaving Home Depot. Espescially if you're doing something as unstable as throwing rocks at people's windshields. > >A screwdriver, knife, and scissors all can easily kill someone. Mr. Nutjob also matched the description and was later identified as a person throwing rocks at windshields who was now on the side of a freeway attacking a cop. Apply it again. > >Maybe a taser would have worked, but I'll bet there's a reason it > >wasn't used. If he didn't try one, but has a good reason, then > nothing further should be done. > > How about if we stop blindly trusting the police, and start holding > them accountable to the same standards everyone else is? I'm not blindly trusting them, I'm just stating that the facts are showing a person who was exhibiting hostile behavior was approached by an officer, who he then attempted to attack. Upon attempting to attack the officer, who had retreated to behind his car, the officer fired at the subject twice, hitting him in the center mass as he was trained to do. I don't see the problem here. There's been nothing about him even having a taser, and given the regional budget shortfalls I'd be surprised if he had one available. Officers here seem to use a taser when available, but I did see a segment on the news about how quite a few local departments just can't afford to buy them. > In the past few weeks I have had the pleasure of dealing with about 5 > cops, and the misfortune of dealing with a single **** of a cop and > another asshole cop-wanna-be. Citizens should be accorded the > rights that liberals are arguing terrorists have, yet people like you > argue that we should have no rights. I'd say you have the right to stop when you're charging at a cop who has his gun drawn. Anyone with half a brain knows you shouldn't run at cops with shiny things in your hands when you're already clearly breaking another law, and suspected of breaking other laws that are considered a type of assault. > Criminals in this country are supposed to get their day in court once > apprehended under appropriate circumstances. No, you never see a problem with using deadly force to stop someone from flipping off a cop, either. >Yeah, but always assuming that cops are **** cop makes you as bad as >**** cop, you see? Simple - the blind following that cops enjoy here allow them to violate our rights left and right because they can always count on people like you to stand up and shout how reading the article made you an expert, and you decided it is OK. |

In my opinion I don't see any evidence this officer did anything wrong. If you have any evidence to counter that, other than a blind hatred of all police, please post it. In this incident there's no evidence whatsoever that the officer did anything wrong, other than the dead suspect who had been charging a police officer. Do you have anything but generalizations and baseless insults to counter that? Dave |

Nah, at 5-5:30, it was moving all the way. I was in triple digits in parts of the 15 (even the downhills, which Californians have this annoying tendency to brake on). >I hope you didn't also get stuck in the hell that was 163 South near Friars >Rd (I-8) that day I stay at the Sheraton (ne'e Radisson) there in Mission Valley when I'm in SD; I've get to have any traffic on the 163 South of Balboa (coming or going) and I pass that Friars Road traffic, as I get off it on the 8E. I did make the mistake of trying to get back onto the 163 from Friars three days before Xmas after leaving the grocery store at 6ish- took me 25 mins to go the 1/2 mile to the expressway entry. -Kenny -- Kenneth R. This was a mix of the shopping, an accident, and rubberneckers. There's been a few spectacular accidents when traffic is backed up in the lanes for Friars Rd and someone takes the downhill too fast. I saw one there about 3 years ago where an F-150 had mounted a Mustang. Dave |
