Default Ohio floods

Our prayers are for those in the midst of the floods.

I know that TV news sometimes magnifies just a
small area but the story in Findlay and Ottawa looks
tough.

Dad --- how you making out?

Actually I live in the headwaters of the Tiffin/Maumee river's shed
water area and I dry up fast, kinda. We were getting 5.5 inches an
hour last night but that band of thunderstorms were past my house in
less than an hour. I went up to Michigan where they had some major
damage, tornadoes, and worked on keeping pumps running.

We built some monster diaphragm pumps when I was working and they have
always had a bunch they load out or donate until the water is handled.
Since most people in the trouble area are concerned about other things
it helps if someone is on hand to handle the little things. Tried to
keep 6 pumps running at 200 plus gallons a minute but with the
humidity high along with the air flow required to run them we were
freezing up the spool valves. Some of the pumps were by other
manufactures and took some time to get used to keeping them on line.
Lost my muffs early in the night and I can still hear that Detroit
diesel even though I came home early, about 2:30 AM.

Some of the volunteers had been down to Findlay and said they were
pretty much under control but and just getting on the long cleanup
road back to normal. Not much of a choice but I'll take flood water
over tornadoes any day, edge of Lansing and Potterville were a mess.

Southern Wisc. and Northern Illinois got hit hard ; some homes under 6
feet of water. Many stores cant get sump pumps on the shelf fast
enough.

On the other hand I could have been in Carlisle PA at the Corvette
bash, crash, trash, and/or smash.
http://www.corvettevalley.com/showthread.php?t=8090 I wonder if Bob G.
went?

Just got back from my second shift, way to many
clothes/plastic/paper/wire/sticks/beercans being sucked into the
pumps. Actually we were using them to suck the trash out of the drain
grills in the underpasses so those pumps could clear them normally.
PLUS, I don't need to be disinfected anymore and a good shower with
some after shave may make me smell a tad better.

My next job is to clear the grasshoppers off the van, they are about
the size of a small bird and lay down a yellow grease splat the size
of your hand print.

Pretty day out there and we'll have a beautiful moon lit night again
tonight, life is great.

Thankful Dad
