Default Which is correct???

I have been out of the stang scene for a few years, my first car was and
still is a 67' T-5 and I just ordered my 05' acouple of weeks ago, my
question is that I went to Crackle Barrel last week and run up on an awsome
04' anniversary Mach 1..... then today I ran up on a poster from Ford that
had the 05' and mentioned that it was the 40th anniversay model...... which
is true?? I know that 64 1/2 was the first year, so how do they claim that
the 05' is the special one? Can someone clear the smoke for me? Thanks

It's all marketing. It sold a lot of cars last year, so why not try
again this year? We all know that the '05 is the 41st model year.

The '05 Mustang is the 40th model year. Although the '64 1/2 Mustangs are
seperated from the '65's due to slight differences, they were built for and
titled as '65 Mustang's.

It is all about $$$. Back in those days, all new model years were sold
around September of the previous year, i.e. 1970 models were sold in
Aug/Sept of 1969, 1965 models were sold in Aug/Sept of 1964. The first year
of the mustang was 1965. All those Yahoo that advertise the 19641/2 are
boobs! Check the KBB Gold or other value registry. Mustang starts in 1965.

Ford is just playing up the hype created by collectors that are trying to
run prices up....constantly.

2005 is the 40th year!

So does that mean that the 64 1/2 is actually a 65 that was sold in Aug/Sept
of 64?

The Mustang was introduced April 17th 1964 as an early 1965 intro. Ford has never called
it a '64 1/2. It has always been a '65. Enthusiasts call them '64 1/2's to differentiate
them from later cars due to some production changes that happened later. ( alternators and
engine line ups etc.) These were running changes that didn't neccesarily coincide with the
Sept. timeframe either. So basically the first "title" year for a Mustang is 1965. StuK

So, what about our old 70 1/2 Falcon? I can't remember what year that
was titled. It was definately NOT a 1970 Falcon, and Ford did not make
a 1971 US Falcon (Aussie Falcons were still made).

It was a 1970 Falcon based on the Fairlane/Torino platform.
I used to have one too, until it got totaled by a 1-ton Chevy pickup.
