Our old Sud Ti had passive rear steering, which felt very strange on the
limit until you got used to it, and then it could run rings around Golfs
etc.

One of the Sprints had passive front wheel steering. The chassis beams
were *shot*

Sure..did you witness it or did they tell you it? In some places
there's a difference.
