Default Lubricating new distributor cap - good or bad idea?

I was wondering if its a good idea to put a bit of grease (to reduce wear)
on a new distributor cap where the spring loaded graphite rod touches the
rotor.

Or maybe that is a very bad idea.

Vehicle is Toyota Corolla AE82 1985 1.6litre 4AC Engine with Carby

Any comments appreciated.

Graphite does not need to be lubricated.
Graphite is a lubricant. IOW, do no harm.

No. You risk having it fall somewhere that it doesn't belong. Also
graphite as mentioned by someone else is naturally a fine lubricant.

Graphite _is_ a lubricant. That's what it's there for.

It also conducts very well. Grease will not. And grease will attract dirt
as well. Grease is the word that you heard, it's got groove, it's got
feeling. But grease is not good for the rotor button.

The graphite in the rod is a lubricant already and it gets really hot
inside most caps so any grease will just melt and fly all over the
place.
