Default Explorer check gage light and oil pressure not reading

Hey everyone,

My 99 Ford Explorer with 81,000 miles has a problem. When from a cold
start, my check gage light may come on and no oil pressure shows. Than the
oil pressure needle bounces a couple times and reads normal. Or I turn the
engine off and back on and than it reads. It has oil changes every 3k miles
and only other problem was a M.A.F sensor was replaced. No codes yet to
provide, but will get them and post them up. This does not happen all the
time, but the times it does happen has been from a cold start in the
mornings. Started about two weeks ago and has happened maybe three times.
Temps outside have varied from mid 30s to single digits on the mornings it
has happened.

Thanks, Lance

The oil pressure sending unit went bad on my '99 somewhere around that
mileage. Fairly simple repair, but a lift is needed.

My '01 did this and it was a bad sending unit. Dealer said there was a TSB
on this.

This sounds similar to an old truck my father has. It idles a little
low when cold so thus the oil pressure is a tad low then and hence the
check engine light goes on because of this. If you could reach into
your instrument panel and push the oil pressure gauge down with your
finger, the check engine light would probably light. I would agree
that the sending unit is probably bad.
