Default selespeed stalling

my 156 2000 when stationary-revs drop and often stalls- sometimes revs
race up & down from 2000. bitof a **** when in traffic jams. any
ideas/suggestions.

I had a car do this once, it was the lambda sensor.

I bought a universal one for 30 quid from local motor factor.

I would have it checked though first, maybe one of those home tune folks
would be able to do it.

Lambda sensors are cheap and effectively unscrew.

Butterfly valve is a bit more involved, but if you can get to it and clean
with carb cleaner, it's cheap enough.

Other possibilities: Idle actuator as mentioned, can be done in the same
way as the throttle I think.
