It seems >not, from your description. Correct. I do think it's the rear wheel drive though. It tracks noticeably better than a 156 when hitting puddles etc with some power on and a slight steering angle, say. Although this is hugely affected by tyre differences, one of the few bits of BMW hype I do agree with is that not having the drive going to the front wheels does seem to reduce the chance of them overloading a little. I always thought the tracking in the 156 was good for a front wheel drive car though. >> How about this for a balanced opinion, I've have a 3 Series for the >> sheer performance, handling and mechanical competence and an Alfa for >> just about everything else.. > >Sounds fair. Come to think of it, only if it doesn't have dodgy bug eyes though! ;-) Yeeeuch... -- Z Scotland Alfa Romeo 156 2.4JTD Veloce Leather (sold) 'Oil' be seeing you.. I was sitting here quietly thinking exactly that - my 156 JTS has very smart stability control - you feel it kick in on greasy roundabout - it feels like a big hand grabs hold of the wheel that is sliding sometimes and just holds on until grip returns. |

Yep. Best front wheel drive electronic control I've driven. ASR - does exactly what it says on the tin. -- Z Scotland Alfa Romeo 156 2.4JTD Veloce Leather (sold) 'Oil' be seeing you.. Indeed - last winter's freeze my 159 made it up a local steep hill trickling on tickover - to the applause of the locals who had gathered to marshall traffic up and down the iced over road. -- Rob Pearson 156 1.9jtd sportwagon (now) 164 V6 Lusso (gone) |
