Service/Mechanic Recommendation in San Francisco?
Hi, new to this group...
A few months ago I received a letter from a competing GM dealer that my long-time source for maintenance (for better or worse) on my 1998 SW1 -- Saturn of Colma -- had closed their doors. This neighboring GM dealer was inviting me to utilize their service department now that S of C has closed, but after some quick online searching and reading some feedback about their quality of service, I don't think I'll be going there. The only two existing Saturn dealers in the SF Bay Area (one near San Jose, and the other in the East Bay) are both over an hour's drive away -- not practical. Can anyone recommend an independent shop in or near San Francisco for Saturn service and repairs? Barring that, how is Saturn of Stevens Creek these days? Thanks! -Jim G |

Service/Mechanic Recommendation in San Francisco?
Your 1998 Saturn would be about 7+ years out of warranty. If it were me, I
would be looking for an independent service garage that has a good deal of familiarity with Saturns (and not another dealer unless you have a lot of money to part with...) When I lived in Daly City I used to go there. Good for stuff like brake jobs, oil changes, alternators, smog checks etc. I don't know if I'd let them do an engine rebuild or valve job, but you're probably not going to spend that kind of money on a 1998 Saturn. They have another location in Manhattan, same owner, so you're covered, coast to coast. The San Francisco location is inside an Arco station, but the repair shop is run separately from the gas station. One thing I like about them is that they know when it's okay to use less expensive after-market parts, and when you're best off sticking with OEM parts despite the higher cost. Since after-market parts are almost always more profitable because the margins are much higher than on parts from the dealer they have no incentive to sell you the OEM parts, so I trust them when they advise that a particular after-market component is a piece of crap. Disclaimer: I know the owner as I used to be related to him. 1200 Geneva Ave San Francisco, CA 154 Madison St, New York, NY |

FWIW, my car has about 93,500 miles...I don't drive it much.
