The quality of your insurance carrier may have something to do with that.
Back in May 2005, I had a 99 Honda Civic EX Coupe w/66,000 miles stolen,
which was never recovered. "Real world" value of the car was around
$9,000-$9,500. My expectations of a satisfied settlement, after my
deductible, would have been in that range, plus unused/pro-rated
registration fees and local sales tax added and subtracting my $500
deductible after those calculations ($8,700-$9,200). To my surprise, I was
paid $10,7xx after the deductible was applied, which made me feel like a
lottery winner. I was able to use that money and negotiate the purchase of
a 2003 Honda Element EX for $14,1xx out the door. I had a great experience
claimswise. My carrier was Allied Insurance.
