Default Subaru station wagon beats most BMW's?!

I can understand that the Subaru WRX Sti is fast, but... I'm
finding it hard to believe that this dorky Subaru station wagon
does 0-60 in 5.3 secs:

http://cars.about.com/cs/testdrives/fr/forester_tst.htm

Can that be true?!? Ie, can this boxy station wagon smoke
every single BMW except for a M3?!

Thanks in advance.
-Ted

PS. for BMW 0-60 times, see:

Snobs that believe the sales hype ... plus believe a £25k+ car

= Mostly naive.

Light + big bhp + all wheel drive would be my choice of new car.
Lardy + big bhp + rear wheel drive wouldn't be my choice of new
car.

Is this troll central or something?

So what if the Subaru is faster? It has an econo-crap interior, and those
dorky looks that still scream "mass-market system bitch" car.

I'll take a classy but 'slower' bmw any day.

Well, in my book either car is for poseurs. Real sports drivers would use that
money to buy a good used Sports 2000 or FF, and a reliable pickup truck to pull
it with.

My next BMW -- probably a late E36 323is, which seem underpriced on the used
market these days (all the poseurs want the 328 or M3).

There isn't a lot of posing going on if all you have is an E36 328i. The
difference in these engines is mostly in torque, which dramaticallt affects
the driving experience. The difference in badge "bling" only works with
people who already understand the BMW model structuring. I would not think
those ones are the poseurs. Plus, on the ised market, there is very, very
little difference in price between a 5 or 5 year old 323i and 328i.

YMMV,

There is with the coupe. Don't go by KBB, Edmunds, or other "predictive"
measures, but real-time ones, like dealer auctions, eBay, etc..
