Default Airbag Indicator Light

I have a 1992 Miata which I bought new in November 1992. It now has 7000
(seven thousand) miles on it. Within the last month, the airbag light
has started to flash. The blink rate is four flashes on at one second
intervals then off for four or five seconds. Then the cycle repeats.

This goes on for about ten minutes and then the light goes off and stays
off until the car cools down and I restart it next time.

Any idea what is going on? Thanks.

4 blinks is "faulty S-sensor." A small piece of black tape over the
light will allow you to refocus your attention on the joy of driving. Or
you could fix it.

I don't think you should work on anything related to the airbag system
without a shop manual. It's a bomb, you know.
