accord fan running

Hi,

My wife's 96 Accord is at about 200,000 miles. Still runs fine. I noticed
thatg on a hot day, after a drive, when the car is shut off, the radiator fan
will still run for quite a while, sometimes at least another 15 or 20 minutes.
Should I be concerned about this? It does NOT seem to be running the least bit
hot. It is right in the middle zone where it always has run. Any ideas?

The '96 Accord has a fan control module that will allow the radiator fan
to run for some time after the ignition is shut off, should there be a
need. I do not know what the allowable after-run time is, but chances
are your car is operating as it is supposed to.

I would consider more than 10 minutes to be a bit "excessive", unless
maybe you were parked in direct sun in 100+ temperatures.

Nobody who posts this question ever mentions how full the reservoir is.
It gets asked often enough.

Anybody seen a link that explains the phenomenon? What does the Owner's
Manual say?

It's a good thing to notice the fan since it's protecting the head
gasket. 15 min (+,- 0.9 min) is usually the max time for the timer
regardless of what the coolant switch's position after the initial 102
degrees Celsius is sense. I've notice that new coolants (with correct
mixture and purge) tend to help. New coolant handles the shock fairly
better after water pump shutdown.
