It's a good idea to drive a little Japanese/Ford/whatever shopping
machine once a year to remind yourself why you're in a BMW for the
rest
of the year. by John Burns.

My thoughts exactly!

I know that bit of the A1, it has lots of speed cameras.

I bet he's just bowled past one, got flashed and remembered what his
teachers told him at school when he hadn't done his homework.

Namely, "The bigger and more impressive the story, the more likely you
are to be believed".

I have done.

I put my foot under the pedal and pulled it back up. Thinking time,
probably half the time it took me to say "Eh? what the...?"

Having said that, it wasn't a BMW, maybe they're more scary. )

I hope he was using hands-free. )

The UK has professional morons?

We only have the one. We call him "Mr. President".

That is what distinguishes us *from* morons. I've had accelerators
stick occasionally in my cars - including a BMW that is a lot more
potent than a 318 (535is). It's a nonevent. Pull up on the pedal a
bit with my toe. If that fails, I push in the clutch and reve it a bit
to see if that unsticks it. Failing that, I'd probably switch the
ignition off just far enough to kill the engine. Worst case, I simply
steer off the road and *brake*. There is no BMW with properly working
brakes that cannot overcome the engine at full throttle and stop the
car.

However, if you're a particularly inventive MORON, you brake *gently*,
without stopping, until they're well glazed and hot enough to boil the
fluid. Then you really *can't* stop ...
