Default Temp. sending unit location 1966 AMC Ambassador w/ 287 V8

Hi folks,

Does anyone out there know where the temp. sending unit should be
located on an AMC 287 block? Just bought this 1966 Amb. and the
sending unit is missing and all of the possible block locations are
plugged. The problem is that, unless I'm not looking in the right
place, the sending unit I got from CarQuest that's supposed to fit
this block looks too big for the possible locations where it might go.
The sending unit wire is on the left (driver's side) toward the front
(fan end) of the block.

Thanks for the help,

DuNG BeeTLe
