Default C1 sending unit float leaking

Can this float be patched? Any ideas as to what to use? Can just the
float be purchased?

Why not? I would think you could epoxy it, or it could be soldered. I
don't think you'll find the float sold separately, but you may find a
used unit somewhere (like eBay) that you could salvage the float from;
even a couple of old brass carburetor floats might do the trick. But,
you can buy a new sender assembly for about 80 bucks from Corvette
Central, so if you have to go to the trouble of removing it, why fool
with the float?

You could solder the float to make sure it does not leak. If this is
the original unit you might think of raplacement of the assembly as the
sending unit may be on its way out too...
