Drunk Driver who killed 6 gets 60 years
I'm all for this but a little surprised since his BAC was just slightly above the limit. http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2011/...led-Immokalee/ Truck driver to serve 60 years in Glades crash that killed 6 Posted March 7, 2011 at 4:22 p.m. A truck driver who killed six Immokalee men when he slammed into their van at a Glades County intersection was sentenced to 60 years in prison on Monday, according to the State Attorney's Office. Ewing Saunders, 68, had been convicted of 6 counts of DUI manslaughter in the September 2008 accident, which killed a group of men traveling from Immokalee to harvest Palmetto berries in the county. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Saunders was driving a 2005 Peterbilt tractor-trailer filled with sand westbound on State Road 78 in Glades County. He failed to stop at the intersection with State Road 29 and struck a 1993 Chevrolet van driven by Jose Saavedra. Saavedra died, as did his five passengers, identified as Jose Maria Arellano, 68, Saavedra's father-in-law; Lucas Reyes Flores, 21; Rigoberto Reyes Perez, 20; Oscar Humberto Reyes, 50; and Sergio Saul Salazar, 21. Blood drawn from Saunders revealed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.11 percent at the time of the crash, 0.03 percent above Florida's 0.08 percent limit. |

You mean cuz he's a truck driver? I just did a search on that subject and it appears the federal law says a trucker with bac of 04-08 must be immediately suspended. Unclear if it's also considered the crime of DUI. |
