Default remote batteries

I have a 98 Honda Civic, and the remote door lock battery isnt working all
the time. Can I buy a battery and replace it myself? Will it remember the
codes?

Any help would be appreciated

The cover pops off with careful application of a tiny screwdriver in a
little notch (some covers are held on with a small screw). The batteries
are available anywhere button-cell batteries are sold.

If your remote then has only partial functionality, it can be fixed with a
"chicken dance". Just report back here.

I should point out that your remote *should not* become unusable just from
replacing the battery. The remote's unique ID is hard-coded into the unit.
The car recognizes the hard-coded ID.
