It was the hilarity of checking RAMFM after all this time and seeing that people here STILL respond to spam postings. ****fire, didn't we determine like, ten years ago, that such behavior was the single most futile action in Usenet? And you're doing it in 2007? Holy CRAP! Move on. Grow up. Pulling strings? Oh, you have turned feeble. Or moreso, as it were. > > > Glad to see you guys are still slaying those dragons. It turns out that giving the ThunderSnakes a sense of solidarity was a good move. It's a shame you didn't organize such a thing here when you had the chance. Don't get me wrong; I have no desire to see RAMFM bite the dust. But, the times have changed, and you need to follow suit. > > dwight > > -- CobraJet |

I don't know how many times it has to be said - the newsgroup is made by those who post, not by those who read. Patrick's been putting his mass-media puke out here for over a decade. Newbies have been posting the same damn questions as long as I've been here (and I was one, myself). As with anything else, if you don't like the show, change the channel. But in THIS case, you have the ability to control the content of the show, to an extent. dwight |

What got you to post, after all this time? My reply to an ad. Didn't we determine a long time ago that all of your ranting, railing, and general hot air dispersion would have zero effect on my actions? And you're still doing it in 2007? >> > Glad to see you guys are still slaying those dragons. I don't. Maybe you've become a specialist, where I remain a general practitioner. Maybe you've developed a MUCH lower standard of annoyance than I have. RAMFM is all things Mustang. Beyond that, RAMFM is all things that are related to Mustangs. This allows a wide, free-ranging discussion. The fact that it's also an unmoderated newsgroup means that anything goes, and I welcome that. I have no interest in narrowing its focus or the contributions of anyone else. In fact, back to the genesis of this thread, I have no real problem with John advertising his products in this newsgroup. His ads are not spam, in any sense of the word, but on topic advertisements (something I've actually defended in other newsgroups). Now, while ads here may not be considered a good thing, they are at the least relevant to Mustangs. If I had control over this newsgroup, I probably would have let them get in. My real problem with RAMFM is the overall decline in posts. While much of this is a seasonal thing (it slows down every winter), I'll bet that the statistics will prove that newsgroups in general are going the way of the big-block Mercury. There's a slow and steady exodus to web-based forums, even those that derive the bulk of their content by mirroring these very newsgroups. I suppose that if I really "got with the times," I'd buy a new Mazda and join a couple of discussion forums about how great drifting is, even though I never actually do it. dwight |

Says you, I still never heard of them. On topic has nothing to do with being spam or not. Commercial advertisements are against the FAQ for all discussion groups on Usenet. Excessive MotorSports had multiple full page ads as well and because one crusty old asshole heard of them certainly doesn't make them a household name. -- "One hard rule of sockpuppetry is that a sockpuppet can't be smarter than its animator." - Arny Krueger |
