Default Droopy eyeball vents

I have just installed a new stereo in my 94 Miata to replace the
factory unit that finally gave out.
I have the center eyeball vents still out and was wondering if there is
anyway to correct the looseness and droopiness of the vents.
I have tried pushing them back in the socket to make them stay put, but
it does not work on my vents, especially with the AC on. Also, the
felt has worked its way partially outside of the vents and looks kind
of ragged.
Any ideas?
I tried to take them apart per instructions I found on Miata.net, but
couldnt get them seperated.
By the way, I popped the vents right out of the dash. Took maybe 10
seconds each.

Thanks
