Default ' 68 Volvo girling brakes

Hi group:

Does anyone here know older Volvo brake systems? I have an old Kombi
with the Girling disc/drum system with the 'remote booster' tied into a
dual master cylinder. Currently I am using a pre 68 master cylinder
with no vac booster. I have the parts that came off the car, but can't
find any kits/replacement parts to repair them. IIRC the old setup
would allow brake fluid to be sucked directly into the intake manifold,
causing various problems AUCI!
Any hints as to where to source parts for them or alternative fixes
(ie; more or less bolt on, booster/MCyl. options) greatly appreciated.

TIA Dave G.

Dave,

This sounds very similar to the Girling brake setup on MGC's. Same
year, same brand, same problems, and same parts availability. I have
heard that there are some booster rebuilders out there that can handle
the Mk IIa booster(I think that's the correct designation for MGC's
anyway), and down the road I will face the same problem since I have
two of them to do on my current project, a 69 MGC GT . You can try
going to the MG Enthusiast BBS and searching the MGC archives. An
alternative sold by the MG specialists is the conversion to Lockheed
boosters, and I know that Victoria British carries them. Rather
pricey, though. Good luck, and let us know what you find.

Hi Paul:

Thanks for your reply, I have done some more research since my post
and can confirm that you are right.
I am now pursuing an ATE solution, found [I think] on some VW models
in the 80's jetta for one. These reportedly have fairly small booster
pots with a dual MC attached. Have not seen one yet but will be
hitting the salvage yards early next week.
This might be a good solution for a C also.

Is this a "Hydrovac" type booster? If so, I know a guy that will
rebuild them for cheap.
