Miata transmission
I have an auto transmission 1665 miata. This morning, my car got stuck
between park and reverse and the stick could not be moved into Drive. Does anyone know why that would happen? |

Miata transmission
It's obviously because you're one of 3 people on the planet who bought a
sports car with an automatic transmission! What WERE you thinking??? Seriously though, on other automatics I've delt with this is usually caused because the car was parked without the parking brake and the transmission locked up on the parking gear. Frequently people who don't use the brake will get a "clunk" when shifting out of park. This is BAD for the transmission! The best way to do things when you're done driving is to put the car in neutral, set the parking brake, release the foot brake and THEN place the car in park. This unloads the transmission and allows you a nice smooth release the next time you want to drive. When starting up, be sure to put your foot on the brake before releasing the parking brake and shifting out of park to keep the transmission unloaded. As to unsticking what you have now, rocking back and forth to release the parking gear may help. > wrote in message oups.com... >I have an auto transmission 1665 miata. Miata transmission
Hey, I bought a 2002 with an automatic. Manual transmissions are just not my
bag. I bought the car for the sex appeal. It is my mid-life crisis car and a lot cheaper than a Corvette. But since the guy had a lot of trouble unloading it, the car was cheap. $8,000 for one with only 30,000 miles on it. The Miata is about the only car where a manual version is worth more on the used market. And always, always use the parking brake. It is there for a reason. When you stop, with the brake pedal depressed, put it in park and apply the brake to avoid pressure on the parking pin. Another reason is that if the brake is not applied and the car is bumped while in park the parking pin may be broken. This is expensive. Dan |
