Does it actually filter out any moisture, or just pollen?

Can you give us directions to find it (is a scuttle the big black plastic
thing behind the headlight cluster?) - if it is an easy job to remove, then
I'll just take mine out too - been replaced once during the service package
in the first 3 years, then never since 2004.

Pollen, dust and that sort of thing. But it gets clogged and then damp,
so it's making all the air that gets drawn in wet, AIUI.

Nope. Open the bonnet. Look below the passenger side wiper. There's a
panel that can be opened with, IIRC a philips screwdriver. There *might*
be some plastic foam in the way. It just pulls out (gently. It's not
really important, but it does tear)

If you can't see it, let me know and I'll take a picture tomorrow.

When you get it out, make sure you clean the housing. It'll probably be
full of dead leaves and stuff, which blocks the drain holes and
exacerbates the problem.

Once you've got it open it'd dead simple. Held in by a couple of rubber
bands. Literally a 5 minutes job.

Brilliant thanks. Just been under the bonnet to put the battery on charge -
will look for the filter in daylight tomorrrow.

The repairer, who is not the owner, did a thorough job and used floor
sections from a donor-156, that also needed repair before install. He says
the cas was worth saving because it was a loaded and otherwise very nice V6.
Then he reports (not in that thread) that the owner had found some more rot
in the wheelwells...

That was the number one reason I got rid of mine at just over 8 years
old. It was clearly riddled with early signs of rot from end to end.

Sshhh !!!

If they read this, the dealer will claim that rust caused the mis-fire on my
156.

Dave S....

PS Do you suppose that Alfa bother to read any of the stuff posted here or
on the AROC web-site ??
