It was modernized sometimes, with for example rectangular headlights and
there was the Dyane version with steel roof and build in headlights, but at
the end of production buyers out of nostalgia demanded the old version.
Just like the Austin Mini Clubman, the original version lasted much longer.

By this time, the 2CV's appeal was largely due to its anachronistic
appearance and performance. Many people bought it to make a statement or
as a fun economy car, rather than just because it was cheap reliable
transport for four.
