Followup - First Impressions of 2008 Z06
Have had the new Z for two weeks now.
1. The power is phenomenal. And the way it gets it to the ground. I've left the Active Handling / Traction Control to full "on". Get on the gas and it just goes. First gear start on the throttle slowly and gradually open it up. A little bit of drift in the rear, but it feels good and impresses everybody behind you that are disappearing rapidly. Second gear and third, it just goes. No perceivable wheel spin. No noticeable loss of power from the computer kicking in to prevent slippage. And it's got to be kicking in, in second as the torque is huge. 2. Brakes. Jamb on the brakes and there better not be anything in the back not tied down. Cause it's coming at you. Got hit with an 18 pack of Coors Lite on the way home from work the other day. Stops fast. Stays straight. No bump bump bump of the anti-lock, although I don't think I stepped on it that hard. 3. Interior comfort, believe it or not. Today it was 105 degrees in Fresno. As usual, GM puts a killer a/c unit in the Vette. You can hang meat in these things. I haven't taken it for a long ride on the highway to see if the torque tube tunnel gets hot. I've heard reports that it does. 4. Quietness. Interior noise is much lower than my '04Z. I've got the optional 2LZ Preferred Equipment Group package. This includes "Enhanced Acoustic Package." Don't know what it is, but you need to turn down the stereo when you get on it to hear your motor. Tire noise is very low. My old Z sounded like an echo chamber when going over a freeway overpass that was perpendicular grooved for drainage. Didn't even hear it today in the new one. 5. Appearance. From the door handles forward, this is the best looking Vette ever made, IMHO. Kinda miss the flip lights. But the front end is beautiful. 6. Headlights. These babies are white hot bright! 7. Tires. The F1 Supercar run flats ride good, handle good and are quiet. On the standard C5's many people complained about the EMT's and replaced them. Maybe Goodyear improved them. They're a great ride. 8. Fit and finish. The critics used to just rant on the Vette as cheap. They ain't saying it now. You can go over all the body panels and the gaps are perfectly uniform. The paint is flawless. Watch the show on cable, "Ultimate Factories, The Corvette Z06" and you'll see why. People think GM factories are a bunch of fat union workers hiding cigarette butts in car cavities, but it's very high tech, at least on the Corvette. Cons: (Please bear with me Vito!) 1. The indash DVD player for the navigation system. It won't play video dvd's. It would tell your old lady (or old man) just who's the boss if you hit a button on the touch screen and a porno came on......................................... (Sorry, couldn't help myself.) 2. Appearance. From the door handles back, I think the C5 with it's "big butt" was a better looking car, IMHO. I wish they wouldn't have chopped 4" off the rear end. Also, I liked the straight up and down glass on the rear window of the C5. I'm sure many like the Stingray looks of the C6 hatchback. More info as it comes available. Ed |

Its an awesome example of GM ability. I wonder if depreciation will be less with the ZO6 than its conventional Cousin (LS3).? I guess time will tell. |

Of course at $1,000 to reshoe only the rear that's a good thing. > > "Spud" > wrote in message > ... >> Have had the new Z for two weeks now. >> >> >> 1. The power is phenomenal.
