Default Turning off the auto door lock function (How, please?)

I have tried to solicit an answer to this in another (a.a.f) newsgroup, but I
simply got replies that, "It isn't a feature on your car". I was asking about
my own ('99) Sable and a friend's 2004 Explorer. We both are annoyed with the
doors automatically locking when the cars begin to move forward.

In the other ng, a few years ago, I was given instructions for doing this to
the '97 Sable that I had at the time. I left the "how-to" with the manual when
I sold that car. That one did not have the keypad entry; both of these cars
do.

Previously, there was a sequence of switching the key on/off a given number of
times, and intermittantly pushing the lock/unlock switch. For vehicles with
the keypad entry, there was a code that could be pressed. Thanks to anyone who
can help. And by the way, the cars do have this feature, because the #@@*%^
doors always lock! Thanks, group.

Check the owners manual (a wealth of information). If this is no help, I'll
endeavour to check the shop manuals when I next bring my laptop home. You
might have to remind me since I suffer from oldtimers disease...... just
don't expect anyone else to look in a book if you wont.

Sorry if I sound snide but self-subbiciency is a good thing to learn.

This is the procedure for my 99 Explorer. Not sure if it will work for
you but here it is:

Make sure car is off and all doors are closed.

1) Enter 5 digit code
2) Press and release the 3/4 button while holding the 7/8 button.
3) Release the 7/8 button.

The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice( one
short chirp and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.
To reactivate autolock repeat steps 1-3.

There is another way to deactivate the autolock but it is longer and
more involved. Try the steps above. If it does not work, let me know
and I'll post the second procedure.
