However, the reference to Citroën does make me wonder: Has Citroën built any automobiles without 'Traction Avant' during the past 60+ years? Peter |

Hi Peter, As far as I can remember, once the Traction Avant was in place
the remaining line was gradually discontinued over the next several years until WW2 stopped all production. I believe that the last of the "propulsion arrière" models were continued in part because of their popularity as taxis. In addition to the "traction avant" configuration, Citroën also produced some 4x4 models, most notably the Sahara, with 2 engines, one front and one rear. Even their vans were front drive. Thanks Max,
I had never known the history, but had never seen any Citroën vehicles without the Traction Avant feature designed after that was introduced. I do recall reading some years ago that the design was originally purchased from the Bud company, and had designed to demonstrate the utility of stamped sheet metal as a structural material. From what I had seen in old books, it was not the first "frameless" automobile, but it had good popularity and has certianly stood the test of time--and is still a car that I would enjoy owning.
