MOT test in UK
Hi all,
In order to pass the MOT test in UK for a left-hand drive BMW 318is, anyone knows if it is sufficient to apply stickers on headlamps or if it is necessary to change the all headlamp block? Many thanks, C. |

To my knowledge, they don't test the aim of the headlights as such, just make sure that they are at the correct height and work. Jason |

You must mask your headlamps. Whether absence results in MoT test failure I
can't say but I would invest in the stickers just in case. I had a quick look at the DVLA site -- where I thought I read about this -- but could not find anything. The headlamps are normally shone in to a box with a lense in it. The MOT tester can tell the height and shape of the beam pattern. I would expect it to fail the test on the pattern if continental lamps are fitted (without the masking that is). For the cost of the masks I can't see why you wouldn't fit them. It would make life a whole lot better for other drivers too! -- Cheers Rick '92 E36 325 Coupe http://bmw.aqua-maniac.co.uk |

On some BMWs the headlamps can be adjusted for lhd/rhd at the back, varies by model. I know the 635 was like this as a mate was convinced the dealer had sold him the wrong headlights :-) -- Who needs a life when you've got Unix? :-) Email: , John G.Burns B.Eng, Bonny Scotland Web : http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk - The Ultimate BMW Homepage! The beam tester they put in front of the light measures all the angles and beam pattern. -- *A person who smiles in the face of adversity probably has a scapegoat * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
