Default Have You Had This Problem Before?

Hey Guys,

This morning I went out to start my Vette so I could go to work. I am
staying home today because:

I walked up to my Vette and it unlocked as usual.
I got in the car and everything was normal.
Key in ignition and turned to start position, again normal.
Turned key further to start... motor doesn't turn over.

Now, this has happened on one other occasion about a month ago. I pulled
the key out and walked away from the car so that it locked and upon
returning to the car, it started right up.

All idiot lights are normal. Just no cranking or noise. I do know that
the battery is good and the starter is good.

What could this be?

Thanks,

Don't know what year it is, but if it's a C4, it sounds like the VATS
system is going bad. That's the Vehicle Anti-Theft System. You can
buy a module to override it - it's not worth trying to repair.

It's a 93 LT1. That is what I was thinking, just needed confirmation.

Will the bypass module eliminate the entire VATS system? Or just the
starting part?

Thanks,

Thanks for the reply Ric,

I did this when it happened the first time. After it started when I
returned to the car. There was little to no corrosion on either terminal.
When it wouldn't start, I proceeded to load the electrical system by
turning everything(headlights, radio, wipers, defogger, turn signals) on
to see if it brought the system down, which it did not. The first time it
happened I suspected a bad connection or a bad starter. But, every other
time when I start it, it starts with no problem at all leading me to
believe the starter is A-Ok. I am suspecting the VATS is going out. DAMN!

Thanks,

i have a similar problem. i turn the key, it clicks. i turn the key off and
back on immediately, and it starts. no abnormal cranking. is that the vats,
a battery, or the start interlock switch on the clutch? it's a 94 6spd.

regards,
charlie
