Default 1995 Civi: Oil and Filter Change

Been using the dealer to get oil and filter changes all these years. They
use Castol oil and Honda filter.

I can get a better price on an oil change at a non dealer. A place that also
uses Castrol Oil. Should I absolutely request they use a genuine Honda
filter? Also, what is the recommended oil viscosity for a 9 year old Civic
that is going to see a winter with snow and cold? I was going to ask for
10W-30.

Thanks

Forget all the hoopla about Honda filters........

Just use 5w30 year round unless you live in the south/southwest. I use STP
2808 or Purolater filters. But I change my oil every 3000-3500 miles.

The best filter is the one changed often.

200,000+ ABUSIVE miles on my 93 Civic. By abusive, I drag racer, autocross,
and started doing lapping days on REAL tracks.
