Default Stick a fork in it: r.a.s. is done

Is it all over for r.a.s.? I don't know abt. you, but I've about had it
with all the bilious incivility, advice about how to get into heaven or
Paris Hilton's tighty whiteys, what's wrong w. America (or Namibia or
Wahabiism or corn-dogs), offers of Viagra-by-mail or videos of American
soldiers getting killed, speculations on what Jesus might drive, et cetera.
This used to be a fun place to hang out with sim-racers with mutual
interests. It's become a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Methinks it's
time to move on.

These things do seem to go in phases though. Someone joins, stirs up a few
old debates and goes again.

The problem is that the lure of Usenet seems to prevent otherwise sane &
logical minds from not having to have the last word and a pub debate can
last for years...

I think RAS will be the last place to know what is in store for in the sim
world, few developers or close contacts to developers are going to want to
share their thoughts here based on previous experiences. Shame.

Tony

It's a combination of 1) people replying to those posts, bringing on more
spammers (some sort of catch-22) and 2) your own news server ISP having bad
filters.

There's a flip side to that coin though - what developers do we really
care to hear from?

There is Papyrus/FIRST who need no advice and then a bunch of arseholes
out to make money out of the genre. I don't want ******s in here looking for
pats on the back - I want a company to give Papy/FIRST a true run for their
money. I've been waiting for this since I've been online for the last 9
years and it's yet to happen.

To all ??simulator?? companies other than Papy I say this - YOU'RE
****ING USELESS! To this day there is one company in the racing simulator
genre that can do multiplayer code - FFS!

Simbin so far can't even offer dedicated server support or even a proper
results file. And the replay functionality is pathetic. Can't wait for the
big May patch - LOL. What number we up to? 1.1 --> 1.2 --> 1.21 -->
..23 --> 1.3 .......................................... Thanks for the alpha
**** Simbin.

No wonder we talk so much **** - what else is there to do 'til FIRST is
up and running?

Gotta agree Steve. I rarely see anything noteworthy these days. If I
want specific info I post it on the RSC forums.

Maybe its not this or any group in particular thats failing in the Sim
Racing genre. Could it be that this Sim Racing by its very nature was bound
to fail? Real Racing as you know depends upon accountability. Without it
any idiot can wreck anyone at any time. Thats the current state of Sim
Racing as I see it. The only decent racing is with small cliques that know
each other and drive respectably towards one another. Enter the nameless
faceless internet sim driver and we have a mess that is currently sim
racing. I dont know that it can be fixed either. Thus the migration away
from RAS imo.
