car carcasses left on side of road reduce accidents?
Say, if the government were to leave the carcasses of wrecked cars
along the side of the highway instead of towing them away, wouldn't that constant visual reminder reduce accidents? (Yes, pulled back a safe distance, and not on private property, and sufficiently wrecked/burnt/rusted so there are no spare parts worth looting etc.) (I suppose the official in charge would not get reelected due to the turning the state into the "Junkyard state".) Wonder if those hospital photos on cigarette packs in some countries have any effect? |

It would cause them because people would stop and look. But having a parts supply ready at the roadside for free would be nice. In college they brought in a wreck for one of those drunk-driving-awarness things. It provided a replacement gas cap for a friend's car. |

Do they still do this for high schools? If i have to think back, we would pause and look for a few minutes saying "its not going to happen to me" Guess insurance rates tell the story about how effective it is |

No, but it would provide an opportunity for anyone with a flatbed to make money on scrap. The distraction would likely increase accidents in the short run. >Wonder if those hospital photos on cigarette packs in some countries >have any effect? Sure; the smokers in the hospitals proudly point to their pack and say "Look, that's me!". |
