Late?
While at the courthouse yesterdy I had some time to kill so I entered a
courtroom and listened to part of a trial. Idiot runs a red light at speed, T-bones a lady, killing her. Excuse? "I was late for work." Just before collison, through a school zone at 60+. Don't know sentence. |

If I were the judge, I think I would arrange it so that the driver was late for work by whatever the maximum sentencing was for his crime, and hopefully that would involve "homicide" in the description. |

> While at the courthouse yesterdy I had some time to kill So did the defendant. > T-bones a lady, killing her. Excuse? "I was late for work." > Just before collison, through a school zone at 60+. Science doesn't know how smart people can be, but we know dumb goes all the way to zero. The T-bone is a real There Ain't No Justice accident. The perpetrator takes the impact in the most protected way, with crumple zones, seat belt/shoulder harness, and air bag all working in his favor. The victim gets it in the least protected way. Just in the past few months, just in towns where I happened to be, there were two accidents in which somebody fleeing the cops ran a red light or stop sign and killed some poor pilgrim minding his own business. One of them knocked the first victim's car into a pedestrian, killing him too. > Don't know sentence. In one of those incidents, there were four bad guys in the car (gang members fleeing the scene of an earlier drive-by shooting, according to police). Two were arrested at the scene and, between the two accident deaths and the drive-by, are facing murder charges that could be filed as capital cases. A third was caught a few days later and charged with various serious felonies; they've got a name and a mug shot of #4 and are still looking for him. Not sure about which one was driving and whether the one in the passenger seat had an air bag, but they all survived and at two of them obviously were not that badly hurt. The other accident killed the 86-year-old WW2 vet and retired state trooper who'd been drivign the other car, and seriously injured the old guy's wife, who was in the passenger seat. The perpetrator was in good enough shape to flee on foot but was soon caught. He is facing several felony charges, including vehicular homicide, to go with the five he's pled guilty to in his career thus far, so hopefully he'll be spending quite some time in a place with no cars. --Joe |

Kept his job too. http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/n...cc4c03286.html http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig9/oliva2.1.1.html Of course 'mr. late for work' will face much greater penalties even though he lacked intent to kill as well. |
