Yep, that's definitely an A6 (C4 model), so could well be a 1996/early 1997 car. However, to the best of my knowledge, this model was never sold in the UK with the 1.8 turbo engine. This would explain why you can't find the model you /thought/ you'd bought in the Parkers guide! I can't quite make out the badge on the photo of the rear of your car, but I think it just says 1.8, without a 'T'. Can you find the engine code (on a sticker in the front of the original service booklet), or somewhere in the boot (on the floor or in the spare wheel well). That will allow us to confirm exactly what engine was originally fitted. Of course, it may well be that someone has swapped the engine at some stage. Can you find a turbo in the engine bay? The turbo engine is most easily identified by the more complex induction pipework - both the inlet and exhaust pipework has to go through the turbo. -- Peter Bell (Note Spamtrap - To reply, replace 'invalid' with 'bellfamily') |

I should have perhaps checked the ad a little more thoroughly. The dates don't match, do they. On the receipt for the deposit I've left on the car, which I've just noticed, the date of first registration is 6/2/97. OK, looks like it isn't a turbo. A bit of me is disappointed, but if it in fact it's a 125 hp 1.8, that's probably better for lower bills over the big mileage I expect to notch up over the next few years. > Grizzly wrote > how much did you pay for it? I recently bought a 1996 > Audi A6 V6 2.6 > for 1750 quid. Well, it was up for £3000, I'm no good at haggling, and I've examined every receipt from when it was brand new. It has 60,000 on the clock, backed up by all MOTs, and it has a nice load of extras, that seem to add a lot of value to the car for me. I love the colour and the condition. I've also got the garage to agree to fix the couple of minor faults I found, or I don't buy it. Peter Bell wrote > Yep, that's definitely an A6 (C4 model), so could well > be a 1996/early > 1997 car. The T is written on the original ad, and not on the car, and so I assume I have the base model. However, I like so much about this car, I'm not bothered I may have paid over the top. > Can you find the engine code (on a sticker in the front > of the original > service booklet), or somewhere in the boot (on the floor > or in the spare > wheel well). I never saw a turbo under the bonnet, but then I wasn't looking! Many, many thanks for your help everyone, I'm very grateful. I have bookmarked the website of the dealer in Biddenham that someone recommended, as I live in Ashford, so it's not too far away. Nev |

www.rac.co.uk says that it's a "A6 1.8 SE AUTO" www.privilege.co.uk says that it's a "AUDI A6 1.8 (95-97) 4DR SE AUTO" Neither mention a turbo. Personally, I'd check under the bonnet - it's often emblazoned somewhere. andyt On Tue, 15 Feb 2005 08:37:02 -0000, "Richard Wall" > wrote: >Looking at the ad the car picture shows a P reg plate but the ad says 1998. >This is quite possible if you have a "personalised plate" so you may well >have a 1998 A6 1.8T, the 1.8T was first available only with 97 R reg.
