I can think of a few reasons off the top of my head: 1) The parts catalog shows hardware dimensions and type. So, if you're trying to obtain the proper bolt, nut, clip or what not for your car, the parts book has it. 2) You can easily see from the parts book what other years and models use that same part. So, if you wanted to shop on let's say Ebay, you'd know what parts out there fit your car. Not what Billy Bob at the junkyard says will fit, what Chrysler says will fit and was designed to fit with the vehicle. 3) For junkyard runs. You'll know what cars to look for that have the same parts. 4) You can see which parts are "NS" status from Chrysler. You do know what that means without having to google it, right? (Sure you do ). 5) Your theory does a lot of good when the dealer's closed and having the information at hand makes all the difference in the world. 6) The parts books give exploded views which are a great quick reference for seeing how the parts on a particular area of the car are put together and how many of that part are required. 7) The trim codes, sales codes, model codes, and VIN information is all provided in the parts manual. You won't find trim code information in the shop manual---it will refer you to the parts catalog for that. > > > And you still wouldn't find the legal equivalent of what I'm > > selling. *So you basically sanction copyright fraud? No, he's a thief. So would you for downloading copyrighted material that you don't have the legal right to do. > > And so far, you haven't made a coherent case as to why I would need a > parts catalog for cars that are only 10 to 13 years old, because all > dealers and parts vendors will have that information readily available. ---Although, I don't have to, but I just gave you seven reasons above as to why. I recently sold a parts catalog for an LH body to a guy named Ed on this forum. Ed told me the reason for buying the parts catalog was that he wanted to have the information readily at hand, because his local dealer wasn't cooperative on the "old stuff". He got the parts book and loved the exploded views and the detailed information. He had a 1999 LH body car. I've seen a lot of parts vendors and dealers that don't want to bother with the old stuff or just plain don't know their job. Plus, do you really trust the guy behind the counter who tells you, "ah that's ten years old, it's discontinued" when you know all too well that the part is readily available. |
