I declare the area from Bal Harbour to 47th ST to be "no man's land"
(Posted at my local forum)
It's been an unilateral decision, I grant you, but this is open to challenges. Anyone who can show me how to do it --outside of the grinding, winding sidewalks-- is welcomed to do so. Yesterday, overwhelmed by the heat on the sandy part at 87th ST, we took to the road having the bulk of a trailer behind us. We just took the lane and thought we would be spared their rage... No way! One guy with a handicap service car waved us to go off the road while another roared his convertible BMW toward my girlfriend in front pulling away at the last second, right at Bal Harbour. Even the lady in the car screamed at him. Trailer or no trailer they still harass you, or may I say attack you. Then I sat down and touched up my Manifesto --they sound melodramatic-- thus declaring: Go into "no man's land" and TAKE THE LANE. Yes, it can be done provided we coordinate and cooperate. They can't afford to kill many cyclists if we are part of one movement. Actually we are at greater risk by NOT coordinating. We lose our lives in grinding and winding road edges and sidewalks, where we also endanger the pedestrian, another innocent casualty in this war. Did I say war? Good metaphor but, of course, we don't stand a chance. WE ARE SITTING DUCKS. "Never saw him" is a common excuse. Put on something bright and go into no man's land. But I wouldn't recommend martyrdom. Plan B is to stay in the cage. Weigh the options, including a Plan C. I go kayaking often where I enjoy relative peace. Such is life in the end of times. Nothing Biblical about it. We get what we deserve and we are endangered species because of our ARROGANCE & GREED. There's bananas for all, but we want the whole bunch. Banana Revolution or extinction. ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://webspawner.com/users/BANANAREVOLUTION |

It is truly an abomination. Nobody walks outside the little community of South Beach. It's too hot! The thing is they have launched a bicycle program to included all the beach and there's no bike facility for it. This is to be compared to London and Paris. Perhaps their drivers are more civilized or they have bike facilities. The Neanderthal driver predominates here. |
